It had been a lazy overcast afternoon in Dantewada in Bastar division, south Chhattisgarh, when suddenly the police traces, dwelling to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), buzzes with exercise. The native commander asks the troops—formations which have each girls and boys, and that are more and more referred to as the “tip of the spear” owing to their successes within the struggle in opposition to Maoism—to prepare for a briefing. And they also do, gathering collectively their checked weapons, issued ammunition and hurriedly packing rucksacks with ready-to-eat rations, first-aid kits and spare garments—to not point out physique luggage.
