Pictures: Flames engulf Southern California as crews battle to manage Palisades Fireplace

Tens of 1000’s of Southern Californians had been ordered to flee their properties Tuesday after a brush hearth exploded within the Pacific Palisades space of Los Angeles.

Fueled by highly effective Santa Ana winds and dry circumstances, the Palisades Fireplace ignited Tuesday morning as a brush hearth and had grown to greater than 1,200 acres by Tuesday afternoon.

Dramatic pictures confirmed pillars of smoke looming over the coastal neighborhood. Flames might be seen advancing towards properties and individuals are captured fleeing the world on foot.

One resident described the scene to NBC Los Angeles after her escape as “apocalyptic.”

Greater than 10,000 properties are below risk, Los Angeles Fireplace Chief Kristin M. Crowley advised reporters Tuesday, and roughly 30,000 residents are evacuation orders.
