Donald Trump bats for Russia’s return to G7: Was mistake to expel them

US President Donald Trump on Thursday mentioned he would like to have Russia return to the Group of Seven nations, saying it was a mistake for Moscow to be expelled.
Russia had been a member of the G7 membership of industrialised democracies, then generally known as the G8, till Moscow was excluded following its annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea area in 2014.
“I might like to have them again. I feel it was a mistake to throw them out. Look, it is not a query of liking Russia or not liking Russia. It was the G8,” Trump mentioned on the White Home when he introduced new US reciprocal tariffs.
“I mentioned, ‘What are you doing? You guys – all you are speaking about is Russia, and they need to be sitting on the desk.’ I feel Putin would like to be again”.
There was no instant response to Trump’s feedback from Canada, which is chair of the G7 this yr.
