Congress flags CEC choice, says needs to be deferred till SC listening to

A high-stakes assembly of the choice committee to decide on the subsequent chief election commissioner (CEC) was held on Monday, only a day earlier than incumbent Rajiv Kumar’s retirement.
The Congress, nevertheless, raised robust objections, demanding that the choice be deferred till the Supreme Courtroom hears the matter on 19 February.
The choice panel — comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union legislation minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Lok Sabha Chief of Opposition Rahul Gandhi — met to finalise Kumar’s successor.
Regardless of Gandhi attending the assembly, the Congress pushed for its postponement, citing the approaching Supreme Courtroom verdict on the composition of the committee.
Congress: Centre needs management, not credibility
Congress treasurer and Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maken condemned the federal government’s transfer, saying, “The Supreme Courtroom is about to listen to this challenge day after tomorrow. The assembly ought to have been postponed. The BJP authorities has already eliminated the Chief Justice of India from the choice panel, making it clear they search management over the Election Fee, not its credibility.”
