Baltic Sea cable harm: Norway police arrest ship on suspicion of injury to fibre optic cable

Norwegian police stated on Friday (January 31, 2025) they’d arrested a Norwegian ship with an all-Russian crew on suspicion of involvement in inflicting harm to a fibre optic cable within the Baltic Sea.
“The arrest happened on the request of Latvian authorities,” the police within the northern Norwegian metropolis of Tromsoe stated. “It’s suspected that the ship has been concerned in severe harm to a fibre cable within the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Sweden,” the police stated in an announcement.
“The Norwegian-owned and flagged vessel, named as Silver Dania, had been crusing from St. Petersburg within the Baltic Sea to Murmansk within the Russian Arctic,” police stated.
