Canada will announce C$29.8 bln in retaliatory tariffs on the USA on Wednesday in response to US President Donald Trump’s metal and aluminum tariffs, a Canadian official stated.

The official declined to be named.

Trump’s elevated tariffs on metal and aluminum imports took impact on Wednesday as prior exemptions, obligation free quotas and product exclusions expired, and as his marketing campaign to reorder world commerce norms in favor of the US features momentum.

Canada is the most important international provider of metal and aluminum to the USA.

The escalation of the U.S.-Canada commerce conflict occurred as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ready handy over energy this week to his successor Mark Carney, who received the management race of the ruling Liberals on Sunday.

On Monday, Carney stated he couldn’t converse with Trump till he was sworn in as prime minister. Trump once more on social media stated he wished Canada “to grow to be our cherished Fifty First State.”
