New Delhi: Mercury dipped as soon as once more throughout the capital on Sunday, falling beneath 5°C for the third time this winter season.
Safdarjung, the consultant station for Delhi’s climate, recorded a minimal temperature of 4.9°C on Sunday, which is 4 levels beneath regular for this time of 12 months. Delhi’s minimal temperature the day before today was 8°C.

The mercury first fell beneath 5°C for the season on November 11 (4.9°C), marking the earliest drop beneath this threshold since 1987, when it occurred on December 6. The minimal temperature then dropped to a season low of 4.5°C the next day, which was Delhi’s lowest December minimal in three years. Nonetheless, temperatures rose afterward, touching 9°C, providing Delhi some respite from the chilly.
“The rise in temperature was primarily as a consequence of native variations in winds. Northwesterly winds have been constant throughout the plains, and relying on circumstances like clear skies, the temperature has once more dropped,” an India Meteorological Division (IMD) official defined.

The bottom minimal recorded at Safdarjung in December over the previous decade was 2.4°C, on December 28, 2019. The all-time low for December is 0°C, recorded on December 27, 1930.
In the meantime, Delhi’s air high quality deteriorated again to the ‘poor’ class on Sunday. The typical AQI was recorded at 257 (poor) at 9 am, a decline from 193 (reasonable) at 4 pm on Saturday.
