Doha to host 2025 version of FIDE World Speedy and Blitz Championships in December

The 2025 version of the FIDE World Speedy and Blitz Championships will likely be held in Doha, Qatar from 25 December to 31 December, the Worldwide Chess Federation introduced on Thursday.

The 2025 version of the FIDE World Speedy and Blitz Championships will likely be held in Doha, Qatar, between 25 and 31 December, the Worldwide Chess Federation confirmed on Thursday. “The occasion is scheduled from December 25 to December 31, 2025, with the Speedy Championships happening from December 26 to twenty-eight, adopted by the Blitz Championships on December 29 and 30,” the FIDE mentioned within the assertion.

This would be the second time that Qatar hosts the FIDE World Speedy and Blitz Championships, having achieved so beforehand in 2016. The 2024 version of the competitors was held in New York. Volodar Murzin gained the Open part of the World Speedy Championship whereas India’s
Koneru Humpy gained the Ladies’s competitors. Within the Open event,
Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi had been declared joint winners of the World Blitz Championship for the first-ever time, whereas China’s Ju Wenjin gained the ladies’s competitors.

D Gukesh, who had clinched the World Chess Championship title earlier in December by beating China’s Ding Liren, opted to skip the FIDE World Speedy and Blitz Championships.

Vassily Ivanchuk gained the Speedy competitors within the Open part when the event was final held in Doha, whereas Sergey Karjakin clinched the Blitz competitors. Anna Muzychuk gained each the Speedy and Blitz Championship titles for ladies.
