How scrap band Dabba Beat’s recycled rhythm is successful over followers

Meet Dabba Beat, a youngsters’s band from Thrissur, which makes music out of scrap buckets, pots, wood slabs, sticks, plastic water bottles and different on a regular basis objects.

However it began as an impromptu session through the first Covid-19 lockdown, says Indrajit P C, who coordinates the band. “Most of those youngsters dwell in the identical neighbourhood in Kollannur in Thrissur district and we’d get collectively in our free time, simply jamming. I filmed a session and uploaded it on social media, solely to be flooded with reward for the boys’ expertise. We realised the potential and shaped a band, calling it Dabba Beat,” says Indrajit.

Dabba Beat at present is a 17-member band, which performs exhibits throughout Kerala and out of doors. The band has drummers and vocalists and it tries every little thing from viral hits to melodious movie songs. “It’s the help of the folks that we actually cherish,” says Adarsh Babu, 16, a Plus-Two pupil and vocalist within the band. “We meet virtually each different day to practise and we at all times check out one thing that’s new,” says Adarsh whose favorite songs embody ‘Thala’ from Chotta Mumbai, Job Kurien’s ‘Padayathra’, and ‘Badass’ from Vijay starrer-Leo. Adarsh additionally performs the drums.  

What is particularly endearing about Dabba Beats’ music is that it recreates complicated rhythms from rudimentary devices. Many of the drum units include water cans and paint buckets turned the other way up. “We persist with recycled rhythm and the band members don’t draw back from making an attempt a number of the most difficult numbers on this,” provides Indrajit.

Sreehari KM, who performs the wood plank, says he’s proud to be part of the band. A Class VI pupil, he has been taking part in for the band ever because it was shaped. “The love for music binds us and we take pleasure in performing,” he provides.

Although folks have volunteered to sponsor musical devices, they persist with their id of being a scrap band. Nevertheless, keyboards and violins are added to their repertoire for performances.
