Labour minister sorry over grooming gangs ‘canine whistle’ comment
Chief of the Home of Commons Lucy Powell has sought to make clear her remarks after she appeared to explain grooming gangs as a “canine whistle” difficulty, prompting a backlash from political opponents.
Throughout a heated debate on BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions on Friday, commentator and Reform UK member Tim Montgomerie requested Powell if she had seen a current Channel 4 documentary on grooming gangs.
Powell responded “oh, we need to blow that little trumpet now can we” and “let’s get that canine whistle out we could”.
