After a star-studded gala premiere and operating to packed auditorium on the Grand Theatre of NMACC, Mumbai, the mega musical Rajadhiraaj: Love Life Leela, opens on Friday evening on the Jawahar Lal Nehru indoor auditorium within the Capital. The tech-driven mythology enacted by 180 artists is a mix of wealthy storytelling, foot-tapping songs and gorgeous visuals put collectively by lyricist and screenwriter Prasoon Joshi who forayed into theatre together with his first musical, Sachin-Jigar who created a robust soundtrack, Neeta Lulla who designed 1,800 bespoke custom-made costumes and, the director Shruti Sharma, amongst others.

Joshi has delved into lesser-known tales tracing the divine saga of Krishna’s journey throughout Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Mewar and Devbhoomi Dwarka. The charming musical intertwines Krishna, as Shrinath and Dwarkadheesh and creates a singular and immersive expertise for the viewers.

“I all the time search and enterprise into intricate, under-explored topics. He believes the topic chooses him and soaks him in. “Writing a two-hour script, dialogue, and 20 authentic songs was not simple work however a sheer pleasure.”

Sachin-Jigar elevated the songs by mixing Western symphonic components from Budapest with Indian classical, haveli sangeet, Rajasthani and Gujarati people, and Hindustani semi-classical music.

The musical stands out for staying true to the topic, Joshi says, highlighting the philosophical depths of the characters and permitting feelings to anchor it. “Krishna’s story is all about love and looking for. Love for creation, the defined and the unexplained, for the non-public and the common; the manifestations of affection are present in whichever kind one seeks.”
