The mosque, constructed many years in the past, is run by the Sunni group. The petitioner stated a maha (grand) panchayat protesting towards the mosque was being proposed on 1 December, and sought the court docket’s intervention to disallow it.
Showing on behalf of the state authorities, deputy advocate-general J.S. Virk submitted that the administration had not granted permission for the maha panchayat. The petition, filed by an organisation referred to as Alpasankhyak Seva Samiti of Uttarkashi, alleged that since 24 September, some organisations had been threatening to demolish the mosque, claiming it was unlawful. Communal stress was brewing within the city because of this, the petition stated, searching for safety for the mosque.
