Nuclear scientist M.R. Srinivasan laid to relaxation in Coonoor with State honours

The mortal stays of eminent nuclear scientist and former Chairman of the Atomic Power Fee M.R. Srinivasan had been laid to relaxation with full State honours on the Wellington crematorium in Coonoor on Thursday (Could 22, 2025).

District Income Officer M. Narayanan laid a wreath, adopted by a gun salute by police personnel, within the presence of Mr. Srinivasan’s household and associates.

Mr. Srinivasan, who had been residing within the Nilgiris, handed away on the age of 95 on Could 20. He was additionally a former Secretary to the Division of Atomic Power.

He labored alongside Dr. Homi Bhabha on the development of the nation’s first nuclear reactor, Apsara, which achieved criticality in August 1956. He was appointed Principal Venture Engineer for the development of India’s first atomic energy station in 1959. He then took cost as Chief Venture Engineer of the Madras Atomic Energy Station; turned Director of the Energy Tasks Engineering Division, DAE; and was appointed Chairman of the Nuclear Energy Board in 1984.

He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in recognition of his contributions to India’s nuclear power programme.

On Could 20, following his demise, prime officers from the Nilgiris district administration, together with Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru and Superintendent of Police N.S. Nisha paid their respects to him.
