Oppn hits out at BJP, PM for inaction over remarks on Col Sofiya Qureshi

Opposition Rajya Sabha members Tiruchi Siva and Sanjay Singh on Tuesday hit out on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his or her inaction over remarks by a Madhya Pradesh minister on Indian Military officer Col Sofiya Qureshi, saying their silence is an approval of the assertion.

Collaborating in a particular dialogue on Operation Sindoor within the Rajya Sabha, Siva (DMK) and Singh (AAP) introduced up the problem of remarks by Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah within the backdrop of Operation Sindoor on Col Qureshi, which sparked outrage.

Dubbing Col Qureshi a “nice woman”, Siva stated, “How she was being interpreted? She was likened to the sister of militants, the terrorists in Pakistan.”

Asserting that even the courts have condemned the remarks, he stated, “Did your occasion condemn it? Did your prime minister, did the chief who leads the nation, condemn that? It shouldn’t be accomplished.”

Siva stated Col Qureshi “is a proud lady” and “simply because she is Muslim she is named a sister of a terrorist and you haven’t expressed a phrase of resentment in opposition to it”.

Referring to Shah, Siva stated, “He’s nonetheless a minister. So, you are able to do no matter you need?…He’s persevering with (as minister). So you’re approving it.”
