Oscars 2025: Aamir Khan’s ‘Laapataa Women’ Out, India’s Hopes Pinned On Guneet Monga’s ‘Anuja’ | Films Information
Los Angeles: Kiran Rao’s directorial ‘Laapataa Women’, which was India’s official entry to the Greatest International Language Movie class, is out of the Oscars race.
The Academy of Movement Image Arts and Sciences introduced the shortlists in 10 classes for the upcoming 97th Oscars ceremony on Tuesday (native time). Sadly, the checklist did not embrace the ‘Laapataa Women’, leaving the Indian viewers disenchanted.
Directed by Kiran Rao and produced underneath the banners of Aamir Khan Productions, Kindling Footage, and Jio Studios, ‘Laapataa Women’ was launched in theatres on March 1, 2024.
It starred Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam.
Set in opposition to the backdrop of rural India, Laapataa Women revolves across the story of two younger brides who get exchanged on a practice.
The movie’s staff together with director Kiran Rao and producer Aamir Khan already kickstarted the marketing campaign for Oscars 2025. The film was screened in London not too long ago.
On November 12, a brand new poster for the movie was unveiled with the title ‘Misplaced Women’. It highlighted a change for worldwide audiences, because the Hindi phrase Laapataa was translated to its English phrase, Misplaced.
Notably, Aamir Khan’s basic Lagaan was the final Indian movie to enter the highest 5 nominations within the Greatest Worldwide Function Movie class (previously known as Greatest International Movie) at Oscars 2002.
The opposite two cases when an Indian film made it to the nominations have been Mom India (1957) and Salaam Bombay (1988).
