Performer launches Gaza flag protest on Royal Opera Home stage

Solid member unfurls Palestinian flag at Royal Opera Home

A forged member on the Royal Opera Home has unfurled a Palestinian flag on stage throughout the curtain name of Saturday’s efficiency.

Video reveals a quick scuffle as an official on the London venue tries unsuccessfully to cease the protest, with the performer refusing to let go of the massive flag.

It got here on the closing evening of Il trovatore, a four-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi.

The Royal Opera Home stated the protest was “fully inappropriate for a curtain name”.

A spokesperson stated: “The show of the flag was spontaneous and unauthorised motion by the artist.

“It was not authorized by the Royal Ballet and Opera and isn’t in step with our dedication to political impartiality.”

One forged member standing on the high of the stage is seen in movies of the incident silently displaying a big Palestinian flag, at one level shaking it gently.

Whereas the viewers continues to applaud the efficiency, a person from the stage wings is seen making an attempt to wrestle the flag away from the forged member however they resist and maintain on to it for the rest of the curtain name.

Different officers stood within the wings can then be seen shouting messages to the forged member.

The performer held the flag throughout the curtain name of Il trovatore

One member of the viewers posted on X: “Extraordinary scenes on the Royal Opera Home tonight.

“Through the curtain name for Il trovatore one of many background artists got here on stage waving a Palestine flag.

“Simply stood there, no bowing or shouting. Somebody off stage saved making an attempt to take it off him. Unimaginable.”

The identification of the forged member is unclear, however Il trovatore has now completed its 11-night run on the Royal Opera Home, Covent Backyard.

The protest comes because the warfare between Israel and Gaza continues, with a ceasefire but to be struck.
