Purple alert for heavy rain in Kerala tomorrow; faculties in 8 districts shut

All instructional establishments in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur, are closed for Monday.

In view of the persevering with heavy rainfall and a crimson alert issued by the India Meteorological Division (IMD), a vacation has been declared for all instructional establishments in a number of districts of Kerala on Monday.

The closure applies to colleges, Anganwadis, madrasas, tuition facilities, and different instructional establishments within the districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur.

Kozhikode collector Snehil Kumar Singh stated, “In view of the Purple Alert issued within the district and steady heavy rainfall, all instructional establishments in Kozhikode district will stay closed on Monday, June 16. This consists of Anganwadis, madrasas, and tuition centres.”

Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying areas. The State Catastrophe Administration Authority has suggested the general public to keep away from pointless journey and to strictly observe the security pointers issued by native administrations.

In accordance with IMD, heavy (7-11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20cm in 24 hours) with remoted Extraordinarily Heavy (>20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall could be very prone to happen at just a few locations in Kerala from 14th to seventeenth June 2025.
