Regardless of tensions, Bangladesh to proceed to import diesel from India – Occasions of India

DHAKA: Amid tensions between India and Bangladesh over border points, Bangladesh Petroleum Company (BPC) has determined to import 130,000 metric tonnes of diesel from India’s Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL). This diesel might be imported between Jan and Dec this 12 months and can price Bangladeshi Taka 1,137 crore, BPC sources mentioned. BPC’s refined gas oil demand this 12 months is 7.4 million metric tonnes. Of this, 4.6 million tonnes is diesel, 80% of which is imported straight. The remaining is on the market from native refineries. BPC commonly imports refined gas oil from NRL. This oil has been coming by prepare since Jan 2016.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s interim govt had determined to import 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice from India to satisfy home demand.
