Turkish court docket jails Istanbul Mayor pending trial on corruption expenses

A Turkish court docket has ordered Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu to be held in jail forward of a trial on corruption expenses. Imamoglu, who denies the costs, is a key rival to President Erdogan. His arrest sparked mass protests. The federal government says the courts acted independently.
